I have another year before actual set-up but I want to get ahead in my research before making a bold move.

I plan on getting a Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish for a Nano Cube 28. My plans are to:

    1) get two new maxi jett 1200 (I used the stock pumps for my 10 gallon return)

    2) get dry rock from Reef Cleaners, read around and many of you guys prefer theirs over Marco Rocks, get 5 lbs of live rock locally, and 40 lbs of dry sand from Marco Rocks, they have a pretty good deal for sand

    3) let it cycle and add Reef Cleaners 29 gallon Quick Crew, I had no problems so far with their quick crews

    4) get mr fuzzy bottoms lionfish and frozen silver sides, squid, shrimp.

That's my overall plan. I do plan on converting it into a reef tank later on by changing the stock CF Quad to NEP 18". What are my chances of keeping a peppermint and cleaner shrimp in the same tank as the Lionfish without becoming lunch? I want a peppermint to control and aptasias that may grow and the cleaner shrimp to do some good rock cleaning as well as keep the fish clean. Would I be able to add another fish in the tank as well? I'm open to suggestions, thoughts, and opinions!

Anything that will fit in the lion's mouth will become lunch, shrimp included.

Tank that small your choices are limited because of the dwarf lionfish. Like he said if it fits into its mouth, its an expensive meal.

Here's a link to what I have in my 60g with my fuzzy. Some are not compatible with a 28g while others are not compatible with a 28g containing a fuzzy. Then there's the ones that aren't the best choice for a beginner scorp/lion keeper.

    http://www.lionfishlair.com

Of those, the ones I would consider compatible are:

    • Ambon (not for beginners and hard to train to frozen)
    • Yellow Spot Scorp
    • Leaf Fish (can be hard to train to frozen)
    • Redfin Waspfish
    • Cheekspot Scorp
    • Reef Scorp
    • Fu Manchu (can be hard to train to frozen).

The Bearded Ghoul in the 40g list would also be compatible, if you can get him to feed from a stick. That can be hard. I've had only 1 out of 3 go to a stick. The rest ate PE mysis. This will not work with a fuzzy in the tank as well.

Those that are hard to train to frozen should be bought first so they can be trained before the aggressive eater (fuzzy) enters the scene. OR you can train them alone in a QT before they enter the main display. I consider Ambons 'Expert Only' fish.

A sixline would be toast. The wrasse may be fast, but lions are patient hunters. It would happen eventually. A 28g doesn't offer much of a chance of escape.

    No chance on the shrimp.

The shrimp would not last long with the lionfish. One of the dwarves that I had was tiny, maybe an inch long. I had several cleaner shrimp that were rather large, bigger than him, and they honestly didn't last more than two days. Everything else in your plan sounds good though and I wish you luck!
