    Since you have nothing in the tank, I'd say an hour or two but I'm no expert. Long enough for the salt to completely mix and the temp to get right....

    I had brown spots all over my sand and sprinkled on the base rock, not heavily on the rock though. It didn't last long and never got out of control....
