    So is straight up DI effective, just not cost effective? I assume its not as effective as RO/DI. If RO/DI water TDS is 0 what would DI be?

    +1. Base rock will become live rock, has no potential downfalls like adding live rock does (potential die off causing a spike) and is much cheaper.
