I recently, March, won a Genesis Reef System STORM basic from our sponsor Genesis Reef System. I have had the system up and running for about three weeks now, and I have to say that the description that is on their product page is spot on (http://www.genesisreefsystems.com/categories.php?cat=7). The unit itself is built like a tank, very solid, you can tell that they take real pride in the product they make.

Assembling the system is easy, the most time consuming part is mounting the two screws that hold the head unit (2 minutes). There is a very detailed set of instructions and drawlings that help with all the functions that this unit has as well as shows the placement or the two float sensors. It has two settings to choose from for how the unit refills your sump. The default setting is a timed setting that turns on your pump for a specified time, set by the operator, when the level sensor indicates a low level. The second option is the one I chose, it turns on when the sensor indicates a low level, then only runs for a set time period if your sump does not refill in that time period the unit goes into an alarm. I chose this option because it keeps the water level more stable, with option 1 it refills for "x" seconds not until the float raises.

This units biggest asset is that it protects your top off pump, if the float sensor in the reservoir is tripped it will not allow your pump to turn on, great idea! When this happens the unit flashes an alarm let you know you need more water, this is great because my top off water reservoir is under my stand and I don't always have the doors open.

Thanks again to Genesis Reef Systems for the great prize,

    Dustin

My reservoir is built into my refug. it holds just alittle over 6 gallons. It is the compartment on the right hand side in the picture, I had my refug. custom made so that I would not have to have buckets sitting around the aquarium.

Nice idea. So is it necessary to keep this setup primed or can you add water when it runs out?

Nice review. Any plans on getting the automatic water change system and have them hooked up together?

I can just add water when it runs out no priming necessary.

I would like to get that system but the money is not there right now.
