Things are getting interesting at Zetlight. The evolution is apparent while getting up close to Zetlight's new Q-Maven series of LED fixtures. On the surface, styling is much improved albeit with some inspiration from the Maxspect Razor. However, don't make the mistake of discounting them for this choice as there is a lot of power and polish that went into the ZT600 and smaller ZT6500 with many features not found on the Maxspect. Let's start with the pair of 40w CREE multi-chip 12k LEDs surrounded by Bridelux LEDs from Royal Blue to Violet. This 200w fixture kicks out a lot of light as you may notice from the photos. Also in Zetlight fashion, the Q-Mavens are feature rich. Diffused moonlight 'guiding' and sunrise on one side and sunset on the other (east - west) along with numerous lighting configurations possible via the remote or built-in digital timer.

inTank has just put online a new line of media and fuge baskets for all Innovative Marine aquariums. Their laser-cut baskets have sliding doors and removable shelfs for easy cleaning and maintenance. They are a nice upgrade from stock. inTank has been actively producing products for most of the popular all-in-ones out there and Innovate Marine is a good fit. All tanks from the IM Nuvo 4 to the 38 are now covered by inTank.

The new 3rd generation HF "High Flow" model algae scrubber from Turbo's Aquatics is a slick vertical algae scrubber with a number of improvements over older models. Foremost the 1.5" drain allows for faster flow rates and flow rate tuning is much easier with the included single-union ball valve. And a new metal-core LED board dissipates heat better than the older 'star' pcb so the HF models no longer require fans. Up close I was impressed by the polish and little details to aid with cleaning. For example the lights and slot pipe that diffuses water over the screen are quickly accessible and easily removed without tools. Build My LED fans will be happy to hear there are several new products around the corner. On the accessory side, there are some cool new light mounts shown below that allow you to actually swivel your fixture to the proper angle for your tank. The effect was dramatic and makes you wonder why we haven't seen that much with other fixtures. And there are some great new lights on the way. The new XB line has 20-40% more light thanks to Osram LEDs. Interestingly Build My LED actually did a head-to-head test between Osram and CREE in their fixtures and found that Osram produced more light even though the CREE LEDs looked better on paper. Another new light is the 20k Radium. It took 11 revisions but they were able to match the spectrum of a 400w halide radium bulb. All this and new controllers with independent channels coming soon.

Royal Exclusiv DreamBox Sumps are coming to the USA this December. Rich people will be excited because they will no longer have to pay $1500 to have them shipped directly from Cologne. Why would someone do that? Well, these are the Rolls-Royce of sumps. I've never been truly excited about a sump until I saw this one in person at MACNA. They are a work of art. Royal Exclusiv founder Klaus Jansen is a master carpenter that specializes in plastic processing. The plexiglass in the Dreambox Sump is 8mm thick and hot gas welded - not glued. This means no leaks, strong and extremely quiet - especially with the cool form-fitted lids. Drool.
