Available August 1st, the new Innovative Marine HydroFILL ATO controller system has few unique features designed for long use in a marine environment. The first are sensors that contain no moving parts. The sensors also contain chemically-inert graphite electrodes that utilize your water's conductive properties to complete a low voltage circuit, causing a control relay to actuate. Secondly, the HydroFILL ATO air lift pump is self-priming with a built in check valve to prevent back siphoning. Although built to last, these nice features will run you $199 for the controller and $99 for the pump. Look for a hands-on 3reef test soon. More below.

More news from CAD Lights Aquariums this week - a Tension Lock Mod shown below is now available for just $6.75 shipped. The Tension Lock Mod addresses a drift issue that may occur in their original PLS-100 skimmer. All new PLS-100 skimmers come complete with the new Tension Lock Mod. That affectively addresses my concern with the PLS-100 and I would certainly recommend it now if you are looking for a skimmer with an extremely small footprint (4.75" x 4.75") for your sump. More below.

We now install all of the New PLS-100 original Pipeless protein skimmers with the new Tension-Locks. Also we now have them readily available for free for all of the current and previous PLS-100 owners to get on our site. the Tension-Lock is free, except for just the shipping and handling fee of $6.75.

It's simple to install. Once they get the tension lock which is actually a 2 piece fitting. you unscrew the bottom screw out, put the top fitting piece in place as shown in our picture, drill a small...

The first exciting thing about new CAD Lights Aquariums "Conic" Pipeless protein skimmers is that they are made for big tanks up to 400 gallons. The 2nd most exciting thing is all of the refinements in control. I called the 1st generation "innovative," but the 2nd generation of pipeless skimmers from Cad Lights appear to have crossed over into the "ingenious" realm for me. They actually listened to feedback about the drift in settings that could occur from pump vibration in the original pipeless PLS-100 and came up with this acrylic cathedral of gears, bushings and locks shown here. More details and specs below.

The new PLS-50 nano skimmer shows that the guys from CAD Lights Aquariums have some serious engineering prowess . They took the already innovative pipeless design of their PLS-100, shrunk it way down to just a 3 1/4" footprint for nano fans and still managed to make substantial mechanical improvements. Just follow your eye to the red locking system the PLS-50 has. That is a big deal. I loved many things about the PLS-100, but I had my quibbles with the wandering waterline. CAD Lights Aquariums listened. :) The result is simple and sure to be effective at holding your adjustment. Simply twist the skimmer body to adjust, then tighten the red nut to lock. Additionally there is an up/down adjustment unique to the PLS-50. The new PLS-50 is low profile yet powerful (rated for up to 50g tanks). My hat's off to them. More details below. Coming soon.

Calanus is the latest coral food from SICCE hitting the stores this summer. Calanus has been made to sidecar SICCE's HyperKoral coral food of which I am a big fan. While HyperKoral covers the amino acids and vitamins, Calanus packs the protein and astaxanthin, a color-enhancing pigment. Calanus is short for Calanus finmarchicus, a 'highly nutritious' zooplankton from the arctic. This made me think of Cyclop-eeze so I pulled out a bottle of that noted similar numbers in protein. However SICCE tells me that Calanus has the edge in nutritional value and is color-enhancing. Time will tell. I am testing this out now.
