Reef Angel's latest expansion module is the Rope Leak Detector. The 'rope' sensor is 16 feet long and can detect a drop of water anywhere along the length of it. The Rope Leak Detector will work with the Reef Angel or stand alone with an audible alert if a leak is detected from your aquarium. You can actually daisy chain rope up to almost 50 feet if needed. Beyond notifications, when connected to a Reef Angel controller - sump pumps, lights or filters can be turned off as well. Coming soon. Now in pre-order for $99. To see it in action, watch the video below.

French designers Mathieu Lehanneur and Anthony van den Bossche's "Local River" ecosystem combines aquaculture and hydroponics with beautiful aquariums that are glass-blown and thermoformed. Local River highlights a growing demand for locally provided food. The plants provide filtration for water and the fish provide fertilizer for the plants creating a "DIY fish-farm-cum-kitchen-garden." The large model costs $15,990. The small model costs $9,900. Hmm.. that's a lot of cabbage. But they are beautiful.

Local River responds to everyday needs for fresh food that is 100% traceable. It bets on a return to favour of farm-raised freshwater fish (trout, eel, perch, carp, etc...), given the dwindling supplies of many saltwater species due to over-fishing.

A lot of Chinese ware comes through my inbox, but the LT A008 LED aquarium light stood out recently with its slim aluminum profile, choose of 3W LEDs (cree, epistar or bridgelux), and program control with remote. The LT A008 comes in black or white which would be nice for those with IM tanks. See attached PDF for more details.

I absolutely love the concept of Thrive Aquatics' Water Lab. The Thrive Water Lab is a self-contained water analysis testing machine soon to be found in fish stores late this summer. The Thrive Water Lab will test saltwater, freshwater and even pond water. Not only will it print out the results of the tests, but it will create a profile for you and give you dosing recommendations based on the results.

Would you use the Thrive Water Lab if it were in your local fish store? Let us know in the poll below.

Thrive Aquatics is finalizing the designs on the revolutionary Thrive Water Lab ™.

The Water Lab ™ is a self-contained water analysis testing machine designed for local brick and mortar retail stores. The machine will be able to test freshwater, saltwater, reef and pond water parameters, 20+ tests overall per machine. The Water Lab ™ will be used by hobbyists thru a customized user interface on the touch screen, allowing retail stores to focus on livestock...
