The Jewel Company of Chicago made some beautiful aquariums in the 1920's and they go for very high dollar now. How high? I am afraid to ask because the recreation shown here has an asking price of $8500. Zing! But check this out - the maker of this fine repo, Off The Wall Antiques, cast the parts off an original for accuracy and detail. Going even further, much of the trim is solid bronze and the top of the stand is marble. Want a bigger one? Off The Wall Antiques will make other sizes too. While you are in for thousands, just spend a little more and upgrade that light.

The CAD Lights PLS-100 Pipeless protein skimmer is a stand out in 2012 with arguably the first truly original skimmer design seen in some time. Immediately noticeable is the lack of exterior stand-pipes or drains resulting in an extremely small footprint of 4.75" x 4.75". This skimmer achieves this with the innovative two part skimmer body. The base and tower have interior discs with drain holes. To adjust the water level, you rotate the tower - adjusting the size of the drain holes. Beyond this radical design, what really struck me at MACNA was the excellent skimmate it was producing. I had to try one out. So after six weeks of use, it is time for my review. Pics, specs and full review below.

Bright Eyes DIY LED glasses should be an instant hit with the LED reef aquarium crowd and many others. Who wouldn't want a pair of glasses with 174 programmable LEDs on them? The Bright Eyes glasses will play graphics or video off an SD card or can be controlled by any microcontroller platform as they are Arduino compatible. With sensors such as the now stock microphone, Bright Eyes can interact with their environment. Will they cause us to stop interacting? Possibly. Or proclaim - "Are we not men? We are Devo!" 'Specs' below.

The new Radion XR30w Pro LED aquarium light is around the corner and here is a 1 minute overview of its features by Ecotech Marine co-founder Tim Marks. Tim was a pro himself only needing 1 take to highlight the Radion Pro use of XD LEDs for the white & blue channels, 24 watts of hyperviolet and much more. The camera guy, a film major from a prestigious film school in Madison, Wisconsin - could have used a few more takes. Putting Tim in front of the powerful Radion XR30w Pro was a brilliant move turning Tim into The Shadow from the 1940's comic book. But when it comes to talking about the Radion, The Shadow truly knows.

The new SICCE LED aquarium lights are attractive, low-profile 14k fixtures packed with a blend of white and 446nm blue LEDs. SICCE is taking a different approach than many others covering much of the area with LEDs running at .179 watts each rather than having fewer at higher watts allowing for better efficiency and longer life. Taking this further, this is SICCE's solution to 'curtain effect' or PAR drop off found with others, notably the Radion. SICCE PAR distribution graphs highlight the uniform spread of >100 as far as 15.75 inches from the center with their AM336 model. More below.

These are very nice looking LED fixtures. The SICCE AM 466 runs at 110 watts. There are 392 white and 28 actinic blue 446nm LEDs. Um, that is over 400 LEDs on board. Wow.

SICCE is not shy about taking on the Radion as they are using Ecotech's own GRAPH as a comparison....
