Reef Angel's latest expansion module comes out in 2 weeks and should excite the Reef Angel crowd with its many uses, especially at an MSRP of only $69. The Reef Angel Water Expansion Module will let you monitor your sump or display tank water level and give you a precise indication that you can use to turn on/off your equipment. 8)

Prototype Shown

Example of things you could do:

  1. Implement an ATO. No more mechanical float switches that can be easily tampered by a simple snail.
  2. Shut off return pumps to avoid overflow.
  3. Shut off ATO pumps to avoid them running dry.
  4. Implement an Automatic Water Change.
  5. Alert you of any abnormality that can be found by monitoring the level of water.

Features:

  • Pressure sensitive sensor (No mechanical sensors or moving parts)
  • Up to 15" of range
  • Uses any standard 1/2" PVC pipe to measure the water level

I just stumbled on this and had to share. One look at the pic will tell you all you need to know, but I will spell it out - pour water in the top and dirty water under the gravel is removed automatically into the cup on the side. I love it.

OpenROV is a brand new Kickstarter project that already has doubled its fundraising goal. Why? Well who doesn't want a DIY submarine that putts around at a meter a second, goes to depths of 300 feet and is open-source? Laser-cut DIY kits start at $775. You can get a fully assembled OpenROV for $1200. Better hurry, early DIY kits already sold out. More below.

If you've been to some aquarium shows in the last year or so and stopped by the Kessil booth, chances are you might have unknowingly seen a prototype of the just released Kessil A350 and A350W with the tunable knobs. That's right - not only is the 350 series more powerful with a 90w output, but both the A350 and the A350W have tuning knobs that let you manually adjust light spectrums to your tank. The A350W is the wide angle model with 140 degree reflector (edge to edge). The A350 will be release late this month with the A350W coming late May. MSRP on both is $399. More below.
