Sea Swirl has listened to you if you have ever wished your Hydor or Tunze pumps would rotate around instead of being stuck on the side of your aquarium. Beyond the ones for the sump pump crowd, there were be a Sea Swirl that will rotate powerheads. The traditional Sea Swirls also get some attention as they will now come with several different fittings for common pipe sizes to reduce your trips to the hardware store. The best just got better. Available in 1 month.

David Schneider is my hero of the day. Not only has he made a DIY underwater ROV that may be able to dive to 60 meters, but he did it with pretty affordable off the shelf parts and has completely shared how to build one yourself. In fact, attached is the source code and schematics in case you want to make your own. How cool is that?

The front housing was also stuffed rather full with a Panasonic GP-CX161 video camera (only $24 from CCTVohio.com, unfortunately now discontinued), a radio-control servo (a $3 no-name model) to tilt the camera up and down, a 0- to 100-psi pressure sensor to gauge depth (which I scored for just $28 on eBay), an HMC6352 digital compass ($35 from Sparkfun Electronics) to determine heading, and an Arduino Pro Mini microcontroller ($19, also from Sparkfun) to serve as the ROV's brain. Were I to do this again, I'd probably use 4- or 5-inch PVC end caps to make fitting everything in easier.

An aquarium you can hang from the ceiling? Indeed. I stumbled on this unique aquarium again today and had to share. I admire the engineering marvel of it all and the filter hides in the ceiling or in a room up to 500 feet away. The hoses are hidden in the support pipes. Hanging a 140 gallon aquarium from the ceiling makes me nervous but that is a very dramatic look. Tall ladder for cleaning not included.

The Wall Hanging Fish Tank

This very unique wall hanging fish tank is a fantastic accessory for any setting. The cords and filtration system are neatly concealed within the hanging tubes and the fluorescent light (included)*beautifully sits atop the acrylic frame. The filtration system can be set for fresh or salt water fish.
*
Small hoses within the stainless steel hanging tubes carry water back and forth from the filter, which can be separately set anywhere (500 foot reach).
*
We set up installation if desired.

TANKED is a an aquarium-building reality show that begins next month, August 19th on Animal Planet. Yes. You read that right - a reality show about building aquariums. :) The aquarium builders are Wayde King and Brett Raymer of ATM - Acrylic Tank Manufacturing in Las Vegas. ATM builds it all from 50 to 50,000 gallon aquariums and has a 13,000 foot facility to build these tanks. I am not a reality show fan, but I cut my teeth in this business building tanks in Manhattan a long time ago. This should take me back. Plus seeing big tanks come together is just cool. It may even spike the DIY punch around here. Time to set the DVR.
