Fragheads take note - our friends at Red Sea took a hard look at the current trends in our reef aquarium hobby and decided to redo the formulas on their salt mixes to address our demands. Next month we should see a new version of Red Sea's Coral Pro Salt with sky-high numbers that will make every SPS freak smile. At 35.5 ppt, we are talking 475 calcium, 1420 magnesium and 4.5 meq/L alkalinity. Sign me up. I would love to get back to the once every two weeks water change and put the dosing cups away.

The new formulas of Red Sea and Coral Pro salts are the product of years of research into the physiological demands of corals in the reef aquarium, and the basis for a complete program of professional reef care. Unlike natural reef water which has an immense reservoir of all of the 57 elements, a reef aquarium is an artificial environment that is constantly affected by the numerous ongoing biological processes such as coral growth.

Red Sea’s researchers have discovered that in a reef...

The new Lumenaqueous lamp from Coralvue has a lot of little things that add up to potentially be one nice fixture. At first glance you might just see the halide/T5 combo, but a closer look shows you a bit more - the 1 watt optic LEDs are positionable. The halides have nice reflectors for good spread. All electronics are external and mounted in the electronics box. All ballast have separate plugs for timers. And the cap is that the halides and LEDs are both dim-able. I've been seeing a lot of prototypes, but it looks like the Lumenaqueous will brighten up the place in December. Prices below.

Lumenaqueous MSRP:

  • 36" One halide 2 T5 9 LED's $950.00
  • 48" Two halides 2 T5 12 LED's $1199.00
  • 60" Two halides 2 T5 12 LED's $1499.00
  • 72" Three halide 2 T5 12 LED's $1699.00

Want to feed more whole foods to your corals and fish? Then look no further. Reef Nutrition's latest is Mysis Feast and it loaded with giant whole PE Mysis shrimp. I was just reading about PE mysis recently and these are harvested from a glacial lake up north and due to their diverse diet, they are loaded with high levels of EPA and DHA fatty acids. So these are seriously beneficial [STRIKE]phyto[/STRIKE]zooplankton(hello!) and quite large. Beyond this, these mysis are not frozen! Gone are the floating eyes and cloudy mess in your aquarium. I was told one bottle could have a six month shelf life. Available in October.

I will definitely pick this up for my ORA Cardinals. And I can see my Fungai opening wide for Mysis Feast too. Big thanks to Reef Nutrition!

The new Super Spy Corals Viewer should show you every polyp with ease with an 8" diameter. You've seen these at trade shows and swap meets, now you can have one at home as they just started shipping last week. I was told 3reef sponsor AquaCave has them lined up. MSRP $29.95.
