The new stand. The spots where the nail hole filler was applied didnt take stain very well (not cool, thanks a lot paint lady at HomeDepot!) but it just looks bad here because of the flash. It doenst look as bad in normal light and the doors will cover mo

The stand. 4x4 structural members. Birch sides, pine trim.

check this out. If you make a stand like this, beware! The 4x4 where the built in overflow goes will need to be chiseled out to allow the drain/return lines to come out of the tank!

the hood with its air inlet/outlets. Maybe it needs one more in the middle...

The chips on the other side. Also sanded down. All are pretty small. I have no idea what the previous owner was doing to this thing to chip it so much.

The stand, hood, and doors all sanded and ready for pre-stain and stain.

The hood. It has two holes for ventilation fans and the lights will mount to that lid. If circulation isnt enough, I will cut the back of the hood open more.

Re-painted the tank trim to be black instead of wood-grain. Used Krylon Fusion, it worked well with several coats. Did not do the tip-top so that there would be no chance of getting paint/paint chips in the tank

this is one of the chips in the tank corner. I wet the glass and dremeled it down so it is not sharp and I do not believe it will hurt the structural integrity of the glass. The tank doesnt leak now, so lets hope it stays that way!
