    I love your tank! It makes me want to buy more fish. I have a question I assume there is a good reason but why to I see that people raise their lighting above the tank like yours? Is it to keep it cooler?

    Actually there are a few reasons. My canopy is 15" high because I wanted to build a shelf so I can slide the lights back when I'm working on it and it keeps the fixtures from warping the top. Yes it does keep the tank cooler and it keeps some of the splash water off the bulbs. Salt on the bulbs causes a film that cuts down on the light. It's just so much easier to work on which is what we have to do so frequently and I don't like to take the lights down because then I can't see.
