I think 36" generally makes a good viewing height - not too high from the couch and not too low while standing. It seems most manufactured aquarium...

The stand for my 29g is 20" high. It's waayy too short to view the tank w/o sitting down - it's in my dinning room. The stand for the 75g is 42" tall...
