This is how mine is setup too. I'm am going to replace all of the bulkheads and will probably go with a new durso pipe.
I also don't want to have to run my return line over the top of the tank and my sump is going to have a bubble trap post skimmer section.

+1 to this. I am from the Baltimore area and visited the aquarium on a regular basis as a kid. Just stick to the Inner Habor area and you'll be fine.

You need to tell us more parameters such as nitrite and nitrate and give us concrete numbers instead of saying that they looked ok.
