    I would just go with a standard, prebuilt overflow. The headaches involved with converting a HOB to an overflow aren't worth the $50 you'll "save"....

    The littlest bit of gunk, whether on the impeller or on the prefilter screen, will change the flow rate, and you'll be flooding your DT.

    Montipora shouldn't be on the sand, it should be closer to the top of the tank. Like, within the top 1/3rd usually. What kind of lights do you have?
