I have the Eshopps rated at 300gph with an Eheim 1250 return which is rated 320 at zero feet, so it probably puts about 250g back in the DT (that's just a guess).

The main drawback with the sponge is that I don't want it to become a nitrate trap so I take it out every day or two and rinse it out. Only takes a minute though.

How many feet does it have to pump back to the dt?

    I'd say about 4.5 feet.

I think im going to get this project under way soon. I have finally landed a job at Publix (only took me 4 years) lol. So i was researching and came across the CPR CS50 HOBover flow (300GPH), as well as the Mag Drive 3 pump rated at 300gph at 3' head, which is perfect because its 3' 1" of head to overcome from where the sump is going to be and the rim of my DT.
