FINALLY getting the 150 gal DT up and going!! Ive been collecting most of the components off of CL to keep cost down. The 150 was previously a fresh water Ciclid tank. I ve added an 8 light T5, 30 gal sump/fuge, protein skimmer and heater for about $600. I just started to make water 2 days ago with a RO/DI (also from CL). It was way slow, but a filter change made a big difference. I'll post more pics as it gets up and running IMAG0506.jpg

Update... There is now water in the tank!!! Along with sand. I chose to mix the water in the tank since it is a new set up and there is nothing in there. Seems to have worked out ok. I have pump and powerhead going to keep the salt mixed. Now it is a matter of adding rock and starting the cycle. After that, adding a lot more flow will be a priority.

a fellow CL tank builder! welcome to the club.

nice looking set up too. The last couple I looked at around here looked like they were cleaned with a belt grinder or something. I wouldnt even use them for a sump.

    Where in PA you from?

From Exton.. about 30 miles west of philly. Unfortunately, its been a bit hard to find all the things I've wanted off of CL...lots of junk and even more people who think they should get 80% of retail off stuff that is 5 years old and has sat in a garage for 3. I was NEVER able to find a 40 gal breeder to build my sump. I did find good stuff though... a good skimmer for 50 bucks, a pump.. the tank and stand itself... i have still saved a bunch, gone on a lot of road trips and have met some interesting people along the way. A true fish tank journey!!!

<--- pittsburgh side of the state here (originally).

oh trust me CL can be a finicky place. one of the first tanks I looked at was a 55g and the seller wanted just as much as new. he said 'its a fish tank, not like they wear out or anything.' lol, ok.

DISASTER!!!!! This morning I awoke to the sound of dripping water!!! LOTS of dripping water!! After draining all 150 gallons and removing the sand I found a crack running the entire width of the tank!!! I lost maybe 10 gallons in the leak but the tank is shot, so I'm going to have to restart my build using a 75 gal that i have. Talk about disapointment. Fortunately i did not loose all 150 gal. I was able to save about 30 into a clean bin so i won't have to make as much water....guess i ll start a new thread. Merry Christmas!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Hmmmm.

Huge bummer and big dis-appointment. :-/

Really sucks, but better now then if you had corals/sand/rocks/fish already in place.

Hope it all works out for you. :)
