Keep an eye on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. You want ammonia and nitrite to be zero before introducing anything to your tank. Once the first two read zero, nitrates should be low. I always shot for less than ten when starting out. Once you get the hang of things, nitrates should also get down to around zero.

The lights are only going to make algae worse while you cycle. There is no benefit to running them... your call though.

While you cycle, you want to be measuring ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates while also monitoring your SG (salt) and pH balance.

Because I didn't have better sense, I also had phosphate problems when I started my tank. This was because I was using my well water. Please don't do that, it caused me a TON of trouble. So, if you would like, you could also check for phosphates. Algae loves phosphates.

the tank won't be getting any light from that window right behind it will it? That will cause algae problems constantly if it is.

Little if any. I always keep my blinds shut and pointed up. I don't think the tank will be affected that much after back wallpaper is added. But i will keep an eye out on that.

It's wierd you mention that because i have heard that the blue light is moonlight and the clear is daylights, but at night with both of them off there is still a little clear glow from the bulbs, it's very peacefull at night with the glow but im not sure if its moonlight. But its called dual sattalite. 2 lamp 65W. i beleive the maker is current. Very nice fixture though.
