I will be starting on my 20L sump/ fuge soon. Any advise on how to divide it out? I will be buying a skimmer for it. I have never made a sump before so I don't mind a little extra advise. Thanks in advance.

I used 3 chambers. 1 is water coming from the overflow box from the DT. This is also where you place your protein skimmer. Water overflows into chamber 2 which houses your refugium/sump. Water from chamber 2 overflows into chamber 3 which has your return pump. This will pump the water to your DT.

I don't know for sure. Just divide a 10 gallon into 3 sections. Make them all equal if you want.

The first will dimension will be base on the foot print of the skimmer. I think most on here including me have skimmer, pump, fuge. Water comes down into a tee then goes to each end with return pump in middle.

This is the one I built for my friend. Building the same thing for my 40B.

Line comes down to a T-Fitting. The right is the skimmer compartment the left has a valve to reduce the flow through the fuge. Keep it calmer in there for growing pods and the such. The Skimmer side is open dump and the fuge side is capped with 1/2" holes all over.

Worked from right to left. I added 1" to the skimmer he will be running's width and IIRC the Skimmer compartment is 9" the Return is 9" and the fuge is 20"

First, look at Melev's Reef for plans. A 20L doesn't leave a lot of room for a return and a refugium. The skimmer section, followed by 2" of baffles, is often about half the tank length. I'd give a larger space to the return so you don't have flooding issues or worries about evaporation loss. Maybe 6-8" for refugium, enough for some chaeto, and the rest as a return area.

A 20L is 30" long. What kind of skimmer are you talking about?

I'm looking at an sc150. I have never felt with anything saltwater before so i don't know how the skimmer actually needs to be positioned
