Hi everyone i have a few questions that i was hoping some one can help me with. i am not new to aquariums but only small ones i was going to start a 75g reef
and actually ran into a great deal 210g oceanic and stand came with a huge uv sterilizer large pm sump or fuge not sure which by the look of it is odd looking compared
to others and came with a big skimmer and waste collector on the side. tank is already drilled and has over flows and 1 return and supply on each end. apparently it
was in a corporate office and they took it down i got it for 300.00 sold my other tanks 275.00 and basicly paid 25 bucks for it!
what i need to know is what type of setup i should use. looks like it had 3 pumps 2 returns and skimmer pump. should i go with one big pump like a dart and break
down to my equipment or take and go back with 3 smaller pumps.
also should i use this pm sump/fuge and or add the another and have both
also lighting should i go with t5 or led.
i am wanting pretty much easy going stuff not exotics, only cool fish and corals
i have had a small 40 saltwater for 2 years with no issues just want a big one also i am tackling it big time and putting it in the wall i have a small room on
the other side of the living room and gonna make it my fish room/den
i plan on 200lbs of sand, around 250lbs of rock i have a nice couple of heaters and and 2 korila 1050s
any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated!!!!! thanks

1st off I wanna start off by saying GREAT FIND! man you have SO MANY options with a tank this size. I petsonally would use the sump you have and maybe modify it to howvyou want it. I love refugiums full of macros (not cheato). Chaeto gets in pumps and skimmers and display and clogs stuff up. Just a pain to me. Also if you can afford the initial set ups I would go with the LEDs. They will pay for themselves 10 fold in the long run. You will reduce the temperature in you tank by at least 5 degrees with them. On thebpump issue I would run 2 pump and if the tank is drilled for a closed loop, that would be another plus. Letvit know when you get ready to stock this beast as I have a lotta stuff I can frag for ya once it has cycled and is ready. Good luck and keep us posted on the set up. I lovevto watch tanks as they mature.

Welcome and thats a good deal if ive ever seen one.

I agree that your going to need WAY more than 2 1050's. Honestly in a tank like that, an mp60 would be nice. Almost 800 bux but you wont need any more power heads in the tank. Thats the things with big tanks, the require big maintenance, and big price tags.

Lighting, its all about your budget. seeing how you got the tank for only 25 bux, i would spend the couple grand it may take to light the tank with leds, just so you can cross that off the list for a while. There are a few nice products out there, or if your handy try a shot at a DIY kit. Thats only if you plan on keeping corals, if you want a predator tank, clamp lights would suffice.

Either way, dont think your going to get away with cheap equipment. a 20% water change is some peoples entire tank, few gallons over 40. So salt $ is going to be pretty high. Just some things to consider.

Sounds like youve got a good plan together.

Great find on the tank. I don't have any advice for you but I would be very interested in seeing a build thread with lots of pics for this tank as you progress. Good luck.

Reefcleaners has nice rock for around $2 a
Pound , as far as pumps go it depends on what your going for , I know that skimmer requires a large one and as far as a return pump are you going to run reactors off of it also? If so go larger and dial down as necessary.
I use an iwaki md 100rlt on my 220 for the returns and reactors and still have it dialed down quite a bit.
