So I have been telling my son I would set him up his own aquarium(it's actually mine too but don't tell him or my wife). So I talked the wife into letting us buy a 29g Biocube. So I brought it home started making RO water mixing salt doing the assembly thing. Got it all set up, sand in, rock in, and water in. I bought almost all not cured rock and 1 or 2 pieces of cured rock. Should I be able to see ammonia in the tests already or will it take a few days? I just tested the water and I got all 0's. Heres two pictures nothing to exciting.

Yeah I figured that. Not really worried about it, not in my room lol. Thats why I wasnt sure why I wasn't seeing ammonia. But if it could take a few days I will jus check again in like a week. On a side note, anyone else that has one of these puppies have really loud fans? Well one seems loud and the other is kinda quiet.

When I turn on the white lights the fans are audible, wouldnt call them loud but its could be if its in your room. The actinics arent loud at all.

Both fans come on with just the white light right? Because I know one of the fans is signifigantly louder then the other just by putting my hand over the left one.

Yes, this seems to be one of the problems. I have a 14 gal. Biocube and the fans are a tad noisy. Got to the point I unplugged them both. I now have the quieter one plugged back in. Take the tin metal protector off (4 screws?) and push the fan to make sure it is seated properly. Make sure fan is off when doing this. Put it all back together and close the top and then turn the lights back on and see if the fan is more quiet.

One note; If there is no heat issue (tank stays at 76-80 degrees) you can unplug the fan(s). Since you will be replacing the bulbs every 5-6 months the fans don't extend bulb length to any economical degree.
