This is kinda evolved/exacltyob/facesofdeceit's expertise! 36 will light that tank fine, but may limit where you can put alot of corals! you're gonna have to be clever with your rockwork to make it work so you have enough spots up high for your high light corals! 48 should be fine! My concern is the depth of the tank! 25"'s right? I'd say 48 should cover you, but to get a good spread at that height, you may need 80 degree optics! which is fine, but once again, maybe no clams at the sandbed!

I have 48 cree's on my 55 and it is OVERKILL, I'm prob gonna max my whites out at 50%, so you should be ok with that! IMO!

I'd shoot mike at rapid an email with your tank and what you want to keep! Just keep in mind he's gonna err on the side of caution and rec more light than you prob need, but its prob in your best interest! I'd do the 48 if you can! I got the plug and play kit, with the typhon controller from boosled for under $575! And it is bright and AWESOME! IMO it would just be a ton easier for you to do it right the first time instead of adding later!

Sorry if this rambling was confusing!

Thank you, that exactly what I been looking to heard. I have talk with mike on rapidled, he suggest I get atleast 60 led. I am on a tight budget now. I was planning on getting 72, that why I went with 36 for now on 1 heat sink. But if 48 is enough to light my tank, I rather go with 48, with 2 heat sink on each side. I have try search here on 3reef, 120g DIY LED build, but nothing. So I make a post see what other have used and suggest. Thanks again cosmo.

If i were you i'd do all 48 blues and whites and then as your budget allows add the uvs and colors! Just get a big enough heatsink to add all the extra led's you're gonna want! Maybe get 2 and join them!

I think 48 plus 12 uvs down the line and a string of colors should be more than enough! plus if ya wait, the colors are just gonna get better and cheaper!;)

cheaper and better everyday! I'd just get your blues and whites set up! Then save a month or so and load up the uv's and colors! I just ordered my uv's! This technology gets cheaper everyday! Its all your call bro!

    This what I order,

    18 royal blue
    16 white
    6 blue
    6 uv
    2 red

I order 2 6x20 heatsink (fit 36 leds), so I have room to add more for later if need. Now the waiting is a pain...
