I have a 36x24x16 peninsula style tank that will go in my office. I can't hang lights from ceiling or from wall. I wish to have a suspended light look since I think it looks nicer on a rimless tank. Any suggestions how to mount light to 'small side' of tank stand that will hold the light system on peninsula tank?

Also - started to head down T5HO lights for this setup...but am also considering LED. I have $400. Please provide any suggestions you have for LED that may flip the bill. Tank is 24" wide, 36 "long and 16" deep. I appreciate any andvice in advance.

Maybe use this style...if you have enough access room to mount the rail to wall next to tank on small side...

    or...

can you utilize the drop ceiling like that?

An "L" bracket hanging out over the tank from the side that's not view-able. Just make sure it is anchored well and it should work just fine.

IMO you'll be hard pressed to light that size tank well with LED's on a $400 budget. It could be done, but just barely, and it would be DIY with cheaper bulbs than the CREE. You would really have to shop, find deals, and get creative to do it.

What do you plan on keeping?

Thanks for the replies. Do you have any examples of an "l bracket"? I am not able to use the ceiling much at all. I think I will go with t5 for now, and switch to led in a couple years when prices go down and better technology is out. I was thinking of trying to mount something to the stand...i'm not good at modding anything, so looking to buy a mount of some sort.

You could use metal conduit bent in a l shape and bolted to the stand then mount your t5 fixture to that. Paint the conduit black and it will look real clean.
