so my tank warms up with the lights on to 78 degrees and then drops down to about 74 with the lights out. My heater is set at 75. Should i set it a little higher so the temp doesnt drop as low? I was thinking setting it to like 76 or 77. What would you do?

I run no heater or chiller.. my tank runs about 77-80 24hrs. I also keep the house ac set 77-78 degrees 24/7.

it wouldnt hurt to raise your heater to 77.

The ocean heats and cools. I don't think a few degress is going to matter that much as long as it's a slow drop and not like in a half hour after the lights go out.

But on the other hand I keep my heaters set at 77 and my tank never drops below 76.

Turn it up so it doesn't fluctuate. Oceans don't fluctuate nearly at all over the course of a day, especially out on reefs. I mean, Jersey is one thing, Hawaii is another.

At 75 degrees in the house, the aquapod was up to 81 by the end of the day (closed top) and the cube was at 78.2.

I would set the heater at 78, then get a couple of fans and have them go on when the temp hits 80. This will keep your temp at 78-80 all the time!

The fan idea is good, it works well and if you have a sump, you can just put it there. I would set the heater higher and use fans. Your temp during the day will probably go higher with the heater set higher, thus the need for the fans, but you temp won't drop nearly as much with the heater set higher.
