If your going to use only one MH bulb with a tank that has a center brace, I personally would place the bulb higher so all of the tank gets enough light. Unless this is going to be a FOWLR tank. With that said, you will be forced to place the light demanding corals near the top. If possible, I would rather get dual 70w or 150w MH instead of the one 250w bulb.

I dont mean that you'll only have corals on top, just the light demanding ones. This is one of those "fork in the road" deals. When buying any big pricey items, you need to think of the future. You can buy a 400w set up, but what if you decided to up grade, then what? You know what I mean?

one thing to consider is the material used on the centre brace?

if its one of those plastic framed tanks with a plastic centre brace, you need to be careful as the heat from the MH could warp it
