A frustrated rant

Unfortunately it happens everywhere and it is very frustrating. I am the only one in my group of friends that is into the saltwater hobby so I rely heavily on this forum and I'm slowly weeding out the POS LFS's in my area. I have spent endless $$$$ at one LFS and was in there the other day trying to buy food and had to wait 30+ minutes just to pay while the owner tried selling a retired couple in the mid SEVENTIES a five thousand dollar set up!

edit: Before logging into this forum I was talked into a Clown Triggerfish, Queen Angel, Snowflake Eel, and two different types of tangs. All this was for my little 55gal upright. Since joining all the above have been re located to better homes. LFS just wants a sale and could honestly care less.

 

I was hoping to be able to go to the store without needing their advice and just get what I want. I may be able to do that with the first place I tried, but the second place really deterred me with the dead puffer laying in the tank for a minimum of 24 hours-maybe longer depending on when the poor thing died. Now I'm concerned about the health of the tanks they keep the livestock in.
Swisswiss, I feel the same. I had a great LFS back home, who would refuse to sell you a fish if it was not suitable for the tank you had. He was very honest about the facts on what could and could not be done. I am sure he lost a few sales from it, but I think it made his customers more loyal too.
I am only a couple of hours from Ottawa, I'm ok with driving there for what I need. I will miss having a place close to ...who am I kidding...harass. I love stopping in to see what's new.

The reason HI is excluded is you are not legally allowed to keep much of anything in the live corals department in HI.
