i was thinking that my next tank 180g or above id have a trigger tank. are all these fish compatable? i also have a red sea sailfin and a rabbitfish id thought id put in with them. are there any other kinds of fish i could put with them? and i take it this tank would be a fowlr? and if they are only for a fowlr would a 55g tank be big enough for them realizing that i wouldnt that many any ways. but then again i just may have to buy more tanks for the fish i want.

Which trigger species were you wanting? 180g is the minimum recommended tank size for the larger ones. Of course, mixing them is always a 50/50 gamble. Given plenty of space and kept well-fed, they might get along.

None of the fish you mentioned are suitable for a 55g. They will grow too big and require a lot of swimming space.

+1. I was dumb enough to put a Pink tail in with a Niger. Niger got his butt whooped.

They can take years to reach full size. A 180 would do for a long time. Starting them out small, and feeding them well can go a long way towards success. Large angels, tangs and more aggressive wrasses work well.

Price is another good reason to buy them small. IME, it's much easier to grow fish up together. I would never be able to have a Blueline trigger if I had to add it as an adult.

Btw, my Goldheart trigger has the best disposition of all of them. He's the peacekeeper of the tank. Never causes any trouble, but will not take any crap from anyone. Beautiful fish, too.
