I've been looking and researching acans online as of late and I was wondering what the community on 3reef thinks of keeping and caring for them? I was checking some bids out on Ebay for them but I think I'm going to wait for MAX to maybe purchase a few. The colors are absolutely insane and I don't know if I can hold out any longer. I haven't added a coral to my tank in like 3 months and its killing me!!!

They are one of my favorites. Amazing colors and quite hardy!

Acans are awesome, they have great color and are really hardy and grow reasonably fast, generally speaking, especially if you feed them regularly. I have a few small colonies and love them for a lot of reasons.

Be very careful when buying them though, there are lots of retailers and individual sellers who throw them under very blue light and or post-process the pictures to accentuate the colors excessively or bring out colors that may not be there in your tank or their tank for that matter.

I wouldn't buy them without seeing them in person and understanding the light they're under compared to your own, finding a trusted retailer that you know takes accurate pictures for what things look like in your tank, or being willing to take the risk that they may look different in your tank.

Something like that, just be cautious and don't take anything at face value, almost like well, buying anything. People market to what they know people want and what they like even though they may be stretching the truth just a little bit. :)

Thanks for the great info, yeah I think I'm going to wait for the big expo out here in Southern California to make some coral purchases. I gotta sneak some money out of the savings and make sure my girlfriend doesn't notice.:-/

Very true. Different lighting may drastically alter the coloring, or at least hinder the coloring. I purchased two that looked amazing in person under halides, but then looked like they lost most of their color under my PCs. Now they look much better again under my T5s.
