I was browsing the 2 docs website and this contraption caught my eye:

Aquarium Acclimation Kit: Reef Gently AccliMate Pro

As a newbie (don't even have a tank yet), the acclimation process is still sort of mysterious to me. I know the mechanics of the process, but...

Any thoughts as to whether this might be a good system, or do you think it's unnecessary? :-/

Looks sexy but WAY OVERKILL! Get the same effect with a $3.99 tuperware & a $2.99 piece of air tubing.

as others have said this gadget works fine but you can achieve the same thing for wayyyyy less. just use some airline tubing tie a knot in it to control the drip rate and drip into a bucket

I use 2.5g tank and the tubing that's used for dextrose in the hospital. cost me close to nothing. Here's how I acclimate my fish.

But that acclimation kit you posted looks way cooler lol.

Yeah, you've all said what I kinda already knew, but it looked so simple! DIYer, I'm not. I'm just gonna have to stress it out when it comes time to get fish.
