Just wondering if birdnest coral has similar lighting needs as acropora. I have a birdsnest that is doing well and would like to get some acros too.

I have 4 types of birdsnest among like 4 or 5 acroporas all withing centimeters of each other. These frags really grow fast.

IMHO, birdsnest requires much lower flow, lighting, and is much more tolerant than acro.

Once Birdsnests get big, they need a ton of flow, like most other sps to keep from dying off in the middle.

I would also say that IME, that birdsnests might be able to endure less light than acros, they do extremely well under intense light, and very good flow for that matter. I would 100% say that most birdsnest are more tolerant in almost every sense than acros.

My seriatopora does far better in lower light then higher... It grows faster, thicker, and is way pinker
I have a piece that sits at about 370uMol/m2/sec and another at 175ish and the one at 175 is Rocking!!! Also my green birdnest which according to the guy I got it from(BD if Jahn is still following) is also a seriatopora, which I doubt, is under 150 and is going NUTS!!! Funny how a week ago or so Grimm was saying that I probably couldn't grow SPS on the sand bed where it is 190....Looks like I can.

Not sure where I am going with this but depending on the acro you should be fine. Monti Digitatas and capricornis grow like weeds and can handle lower light, A. millipora are fun little acros too that will grow good in many different situations.

Joe, I don't count green birdsnests as seriatopia either. They don't branch the same as the real seriatopia does.

What is the scientific name of the ora GBN?

Yeah, I see that, doing a quick search. But it still does not look like seriatopora (or seriatopia LOL). Well, not the stuff that Bill sells that Joe and I have.
