What is the best brand/type of carbon for a reef? Any guidelines in its usage?

Is there a metod to intoducing this to a reef tank? I have never run carbon and tried it and my corals all shrivvled up and hid. I dont want the tank to be stressed. Is there an easy way?

really? they shrivel up? hmmm that's unheard of.

I was always told running carbon never hurt...and it always cleans the water up pretty nicely!!

Yes the pulsing xenia were hidden for 2 days so I removed it. Havent run it since. I also had the crash a t the same time so maybe its that that did it. I am nervous to use anything after a crash. you lose thouseands of dollars and you get nervous.

Yeah, I think something else did it. I've run carbon in my tank 24/7 for a while now and have never seen anything like that (and have pulsating xenia). How are you running it?

I use carbon and a separate bag of ferric oxide(Phosban) in a AquaClear 50 HOB filter. Not as good as a reactor but I don't have to worry about any leaks.

alright ill try again in the next few days and let you know. I had the crash at the same time that I added carbon. I only had a few corals and fish left so it was a tough call on what caused it. Thanks for the imput I was thinking of the carbon again.

I have always used carbon in all my tanks. it will not hurt the corals at all, plus we use carbon filters for our ro/di filters.
