I'm looking to add a new tang to the tank. I'm not quite sure what tang I should go with just yet. In the tank currently is a M/L blue hippo and a S/M scopas tang. Neither really show any signs of aggression to one another. They both are eating pellets, nori, mysis and brine. Tank is a 210G. Ton's of hiding places with 300+lbs of rock.

Hippo's can be nasty ... What's your budget? If cost isn't an option what about a Chevron (beat by ingtar) ... Awesome looking fish and one of the medium/large sized tangs. Or a Powder brown/blue if you don't want to get crazy money wise.

On a powder blue/brown i'm worried that he would get easily stressed in the tank.

Powder blues can be nasty too. Great looking fish though. I would stay wary of Acanthurus genus tangs with the hippo. He will get pretty big and has a similar body shape to alot of the genus. I love my tomini very bright accents of his fins and is a great peaceful fish.

I ended up going to petco yesterday as they were getting in there order for the week. They got in 1 sohol tang, 2 red sea purple tangs, 1 powder brown and a yellow eye. I came home with the purple tang. He is roughly 4-5 inches. He is my last fish.

How much did you pay for the purple? I just added a powder brown BTW. he was a bit sickly but wanted to give him a shot. He ate like a pig today for me. I think he's going to be fine.

Good luck, I've seen people keep yellows and purples together, hopefully there is not a zebrasoma highlander event.

My scopas is about 1/8 of the size of the purple. My hippo has paid him no attention yet. Scopas thought he would try to show him whos boss.

The purple tang was $99. Thats why I couldnt pass him up. Both purple tangs sold before they could even let them out the bag. Once they hit there water, I wouldnt want them.

It always a good rule of thumb to only have 1 tang from each family
    Familys are
Paracanthurus, Zebrasoma, Acanthurus, Ctenochaetus, and Naso
