What skimmer are you running? Are you running a sump of any kind?

try putting cotton in front of the exit where bubble comes out. Thats what I did with my aquaticlife skimmer. But that worked because it was in one of the biocube chambers, and was a little gap between the aquaticlife and biocube plastic chamber had small gap, so i just placed it on there and didnt drift away.

If yours the same concept, you can do that

Yeah he got it new and no sponge. We are going to replumb the skimmer and put a sponge in the bottom of the skimmer to act as a bubble trap

Not sure if this idea is any use to you

I have a reef octopus that I have added 2 sponges to the overflow box of the unit and that has helped reduce micro bubbles
and each week at water change I can easily take these sponges out and rinse any detrius they collected off without having to reach down to the base of my skimmer

the sponges have a hole through the middle (I got them out of a reactor I am going to run bio pellets in) so there is not much chance of an overflow even if I ignore them for a week
