ANyone using air stones for oxygen?? I had them in for years and suddenly someone told me 'we' don't use them in saltwater tanks so I took them out but now I see a film that builds on top the water so I put them back on and the stirring of the surface makes this film disapear?? Are they good to have or not?? I am using Koralia 3's so there's flow in there but no actual bubble action.:-/

Air stones in saltwater will increase salt creep. Thus you will have to watch your SG more carefully. A surface skimmer or a power head pointed towards the surface to agitate it will keep that film off the surface. But if you have nothing else you can use them.

There's nothing stopping you from using them, they are just an older technology aren't nearly as widely in use as they once were. As said, point a power head towards the surface and that should do and help with gas exchange.

Ah, perfect, I will point the wavemakers upwards then!, I don't like the bubbles splashing at the the top and really liked it when they were off. Thanks alot, should have thought of that!! lol

I would highly recommend running a sump with an overflow on the DT. It kills the protein slick. Plus you can put a skimmer down there.
