the sks were like 80 bucks at one time to lol not any more but hey thsnk obama ;D

    Firt of all BE NICE!!!!!!

the ak while a reliable wepon and cheep to buy is not my favorite plus yea the ammos cheep wolf and tula ammo is steel casings and not reliable from what iv shot plus ak's have killed alot of people russia made over 3 million of them for the cold war that got sold to the stans and vitatnams.... they kill eachother every day.

ar-15 with a red dot and duel feed clips $650.00 right down the road NEW can they be 1500 sure but its american reliability that your paying for and to say that it can save your life thats not a bad option. plus the ak's have gotton alot of attention from the gov't and local leos about the ganster wepon of choice which may make them a watched wepon just look into you options.

as for my home defense wepon, I have a mossberg 835 12 guage its chambered to 3.5 inch mag rounds with buck shot ;D ;D ;D not much I cant explode LOL

    just my 2 cents

i own over 20 firearms.....i have a rock river ar-15 M4 5.56 and a bulgarian arsenal Ak-47.....the Ak is sweet...it can shoot steel cased ammo which is cheaper than the ar-15 brass,so u can stock up on alot more....its way more reliable and is what i would choose if the shtf...so comming from someone that owns both get the Ak....look at the black polymer arsenal AKs,they are awesome

GET BOTH!!! they both have their place on the battlefield. reliability, accuracy, and ease of use are in both, just in dfff doses. I like the AR and how the stock absorbs recoil on your shoiulder. I can squeeze off a few hundered rounds and not even feel it, unlike das AK, both are sick and the noise the reciever makes on the AK is priceless. Shock and awe!

You've been given some not so accurate info. The stock ar-10 shoots a 308 (the lower can accept other similar length rounds) and if you think the standard ar is expensive don't even think about it. Both the ar and ak can accept very high capacity mags but depending on where you live can be frowned upon. The ar gas system is finicky but when finally set up and kept clean will function. The ak gas system was designed to be maintained by illiterate idiots and you have to try to get it to mess up.

If you want accuracy get the ar, if you want to plink and have fun get the ak (then save to get the other :) )

there are far better guns than a ar-15 for distance....if you want to shoot far get a bolt action rifle if you want to have fun "blowing stuff up"get the ak...its never jammed in the 5 thousand rounds ive put thru it,the ar is a different story

5.56 and .223 are (for all practical purposes) the same cartridge. The AR fires 5.56 (.223) and the AK fires 7.62x39...
