It will take a while for the algae to "starve to death" as it will still be getting light. You can pull the hair algae off the rocks, but make sure that when you pull it out you remove the clump from the tank immediately, then go back to grab another clump. Otherwise, you risk spreading it around the tank. Also, if the hair algae is too long, a CUC won't eat it.

For the red algae, most likely cyanobacteria, you can try to siphon it out during a water change or get chemiclean and dose it with that.

+1^, also cyano doesn't like flow. How much flow do you have? and how big of tank?

it took me a few weeks to starve mine, you can take the big tube off the end of your siphon and use a small tube or just the hose if its small enough to lightly vacuum off the cyano from the sand. just don't go in very deep or you'll take out a bunch of sand too! a tooth brush can also do wonders for removing it off rocks. more flow helped me too.
