there was a few threads here a while ago about this stuff. I think the general consensus was it worked pretty well, but drastically reduced pod populations.

I actually tried this many years ago when I was new to this hobby. To be honest with you, it's no different than "Cycle", "Prime" or any other live bacteria supplement. The premise behind these things is to boost your biological system volume to reduce the dissolved organics in your tank by breaking them down before GHA can consume them. In theory it works great, but I personally saw no change. Honestly, I gave up on my battle against GHA for a few years until late last year.
I ripped out the GHA off the rocks, and saw my NO3 spike. I changed my RO/DI water filters, fed less, shortened my photocycle, added a fuge and let my bio system naturally readjust. I still have some GHA, but it is much less than before and what is left isn't growing. I truly believe in finding the source of the problem and eradicating that to eliminate problems in a tank.
I will admit that sometimes we need a helping hand to get started. If this helps your battle get started, more power to ya. What works for one person may not work for another, and vice versa. :)
