I'm fairly new to the hobby with saltwater, made plenty of mistakes, and still learning. I go to 2 reputable fish stores...one tells me that with coral & fish, alkalinty should be 1.023, the other tells me 2.4. What is a safe range.

    Thanks! :-/

I think you are mixing up Salinity 1.023 and Alkalinity 2.4 read those articles, both those numbers are not where I would want them.

Great link! I was saving my parameters question until I did some of my own research, but this is a huge help.

    two possibilities.
One is alkalinity and one is salinity, yes they do rhyme. however that alkalinity is wrong for corals.

    other possibility
both are salinity, one recommend 1.023 and the other 1.024(do not put your salinity at 2.4 thats probably past pure salt anyway)

yah i have a moderate load of corals and run my salinity at 1.026...definitely invest in a refractometer for as accurate readings as possible.

i do 1.025 but with a hydrometer not a refractometer. once your in the 1.023-1.026 range i think the big thing is consistancey not so much the "exact" measurement
