    Hi everyone
I'm just starting out but need a little advice. This is what i have..
    51g Tank
    250W 15k MH light
    seaclone 150 skimmer
    2 Maxi Jets 900
    70p "dead" rock
    60p sand
I'm waiting for my RO/DI should be in this week so no water yet...
first question... do i run the skimmer, jets and light during the cycle?
second... since the rock is "dead" off the start should i supplement for the filtering? I have an extra Penguin 200 on hand that i can use ( refugium will come in a month or two ) Thanks guy/girls for any help ;)

IMO skimmer and lights arent necessary for the cycle but do run youre PH. You'll need to turn youre lights on when something needs it in youre tank. So for water, sand and some dead rock no need for lights. As for the dead rock i would suggest getting atleast a little LR to seed it.

i'd say run the skimmer for filtration and run the ph for circulation, it will allow you to clean the tank easier during the cycle. as for the lighting, it's up to you...you could run a shorter photoperiod (2-4 hrs) to promote life on the rock. or you could just "cook" the rock (no lighting) until the water parameters have leveled out.
