I have another question about my Anemone. It's an orange base and the tenacles, when they did poke out, were white with purple tips. Recently, it started to invert and hid under a rock(just about disappeared), to a little pea sized ball. I force fed it brine shrimp a few minutes ago and it's eating them. Could it have been starving, they didn't tell me I had to hand feed it at my lfs? My bulbs says Triton 15watt,could they not be bright enough? I also turned the rock it's on over and raised it towards the light. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you only have 15 watts of lighting over a medium/large size tank, you definitely do not have enough light for them. Tell us a little more about your tank? When it was set up, total lighting, water parameters, etc.

it didn't take the last reply

set up orig. in FL Dec2002, moved several times then finally to it's current home.
    55gal
in a dark, no sunshine room with flourescent lighting during the day on ceiling,
2-18" Triton 15 watt bulbs directly over tank w/timer on 7am off 7pm.
    penguin bio wheel filter,
jebo quadraplex p.s. (got it working today, finally after about 2 months of it just filling up with water)
    maxi jet 400
30# live rock(it's got stuff growing on it so I assume Live rock...)
    live sand
    2-cuke worms
1 don't know, think it's a cichlid of some sort,
    1 don't know, was told it's a worm goby
    1 Maroon Clown
1 Black and White Striped Damsel,
1 don't know Yellow with a black dot and white and black trim. His fins get spikey.
    2 Conch shell (no inhabitants)
    1 hermit crab
    Heater set at 79

No Ammonia or Nitrates, the hardness could be a little harder so I'm adding calcium until it gets to 12. PH is always dead on 8.2 Salinity is 1.22. Water is added as needed(when it gets about an inch low), with calcium, ph, chlorine remover, that sits for a day or two covered.
Fish are fed every morning at approx. 7-9 am with a good quality flake food, about 3 times a week they either get a strip of Algea or a Mysis shrimp cube.

anything else you can think of?

    Hi

    HI,
I am very new to this, but I believe your anemone is starving to death slowly, in the wild they can live to be 200-300 years old maybe someone can adopt it in your area,
You need to buy a good light system thats in the range of 200-300 dollars they use strong light to feed their internal photoplanktin, just to begin to help this guy, another problem if i had to guess is your water quality you seem to be using tap water aged yikes that can be loaded with phos, have you had a algae problem.
    Doug

    something like this would work

No algae problems. The little that does grow is on the filter and the yellow fish eats it.

Please get rid of that anemone ASAP....it will die soon in your tank :'(

2 15Watts is not even enough for my 14 gal tank...

All anemones do that...shrivel up to a mere fraction of their size now and then...I think they are just sleeping off lunch.

Some more light would help much.

Also get it a clown fish.

I never specifically fed my big BTA for 3 years...the clowns took care of it I guess.

Since I have started feeding is directly (a little squirt of whatever I am feeding rest of fish with a baster) it has quadrupled in size...

Best wishes for you and anemone...

Consensus is that you need more light. Are you planning on upgrading soon?

yes I am Amcarrig! I'm searching right now...what do you all recommend? I would like to get more corals and stuff since I'm not overloaded on the fish.
