    Omg!!!

I totally don't want it then! But I feel bad, I don't even know where he bought it! I guess I could try to take it to the LFS and give him up but I the only reason I would be doing that is if they only stay alive a year or less...that's pointless.

I DID hook up my actinics...2x65w PCs...they are old and need replacing and one flickered a lil when I turned it on...BUT it is better than nothing for that poor anemone.

It looks fine today, but he is WHITE and CLEAR!!! (the owners bought it about 5 months ago and they said they BOUGHT it white) Definate result of the wrong lighting. I am going to try and find a reflector for those PCs and worry about the MH later. I know I need new bulbs for those too but my 1st priority is trying to help out the lil guy. What a dilemna...to give it up when it's not even dead or to try and modify everything to help it pull through.

all anemones have the potential to live very long, they just die before that.

    from bad water.
    improper lighting.
    sucked into powerhead.
    sucked down overflow.
getting in to a stinging fight with corals.
getting ripped up by non anemone friendly fish.
improper collection or relocation that damages the animal.
    rockslides
even clowns that are a little to aggressive in with there hosting, will stress the animal

anemones do kinda have the odds stacked against them in most tanks.
ive lost 3 or 4 myself when i started. my fathers lost 2. they die fast if you dont know what your doing when you get them.

My LFS would sell anything for a buck....they took my tank down one time...They told me an Anemone would thrive under PC lighting...the ones that came with the 55....

I don't think most hobbyists should have anemones. I would recommend 4 or 5 years of successful reefkeeping experience. In the wild, anemones can live a looooooong time. I don't see a reason for most people to have them and cut their life short.

I kept trying to get my partners to only special order them for selected customers. Invariably, one of the suppliers would have a sale on them and they just couldn't resist ordering them. One morning I came in to find one whole wall of tanks not working, 1000 gallons of water on the floor, fish gasping at the surface for air, a $1500 chiller with a fried circuit board, etc. An anemone climbed over the drain for a tank on the top row causing it to overflow. Eventually, water made it onto the chiller killing the whole circuit. We lost a lot of fish that day. I smugly said, "Steve, was the $5 off on all anemones sale still worth it?"
