So it happened to me this time. My 8 month old Condy found the intake to one of my powerheads. And I had that thing hidden down the back of the tank behind rock. I am ruling it suicide. Man that thing was sucked up good. And I lucked out.....it wasn't dead yet. So my tank was saved.

But now my clown has no home. And is currently hosting a rock. He is fierce about protecting the rock also. I was messing with the PH and she bit me. Again. Stay away from her rock.

So everyone feel sorry for me and my clown. We are in mourning.:-[

Dude that sucks. But at least it went without wiping your tank out.
Make sure to get every single little piece of it out. Even the pieces are capable of releasing toxins. I would run carbon for at least 72 hours too just in case.

I thought about that too....the carbon thing that is. Then i realized I had no carbon. And had nothing to run it through. Canister filtration has never been a big thing with me. But I think it may be time to procure some reasonable facimile thereof. This was a few days ago and there hasn't been any issue since. I am not going to pick up another one until my lighting is better.....and then one suited for a maroon. Not a condy. That was a newbie impulse buy.

Heck, you could even just get an HOB. Nothing too fancy. Just something that will work well just in situations like this. Throw it in the stand when not in use. My AC70 will pump out 300GPH. Not great for an actual filter on your big tank but plenty just for carbon for a few days. Just set it up in the sump and keep it on hand for emergency use.

    Pharmr sorry for your loss.

Packleader....are you talking about something like one of those cheap HOB filters like at wal-mart?

You could. My Hagen Aquaclear is a little bit better than those, but yeah. It wouldnt be good enough to be a permanent fixture on a tank as large as Johns but it does a great job on my 40. I run mine 24/7. Started running carbon after a anemone died on me, and I'll never not run carbon again ;)

That's a good idea....I didn't even think about doing the HOB in the sump. I didn't want anything else off the back of the DT.....that is a good idea. K+ to ya. I'll go see what they have tomorrow after work.

I wrapped all my intakes with a foam like the one covering the venturi on my protien skimmer. Doesnt slow down the intake nor did it destroy the slug that destroyed my tank (bummer) so it might be a good and safe way to keep an anemone. sorry John bad deal there bro...
