Yes, if it is dying it will create a sizable ammonia spike. Is the nem attached to anything? Is it opened or deflated? Gaping mouth? Stringy tentacles?

No, not attatched to anything, it usualy prefers to sit in the sand. Part of it is puffed up and normal looking, the other half is deflated, this too is normal at times. It's a sebay anemone, if that helps at all. When I moved it to get a good look at the foot (I did not detatch it from anything) it's mouth did start gaping, but not until I moved it. The foot has a dime sized spot right in the center on the bottom that is not smoothe like the rest of the foot. I can;t see the mouth now because it has moved & I'm afraid to handle it much. We did have a major salinity spike on weds that killed all our shrimp, but all other tests were perfect and since weds night Salinity has been stable at .1022. Other than the spot on it's foot it looks and feels mostly normal, still feels firm when I moved it. Do I need to take it out of the tank? I don't want to kill it if it isn't dying on it's own.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like he's a goner. Sorry...

FWIW, Sebae's are one of the more difficult nems to keep.

Anyone know the most humane way to let it go without destroying the tank? I was thinking to put it in a bowl of water from the tank and keep it airated to keep an eye on it just in case it pulls through? I know it probably won't, but I would hate to be wrong and kill it for nothing. Any thoughts?
