I would never trust a "reef specialist" to handle my parameters. Unless, there was a signed contract and he would be replacing the anemones. I see a future problem with your tank if you don't know what your parameters are. How do you know "when to", "when not to", "yes I can" and "not at the moment"?;) Anemones are on the "experienced reefer" level.

Ditto. You HAVE TO buy test kits to be successful a lot of people don't understand that. Dead anemones will mess up you params BAAAAAD!:-/

I had a neighbor that is a marine biologist, but he moved on me the past 3 weeks.... He used to always tell me that if your anemone dies - so will everything else in the tank. With your stuff still alive, I'm thinking they were in the middle of a "water change" and looked so horrible you thought they died.

An Anemone will change the water inside every now and then. And when they do, they will look really nasty - for example:

Look just below the Maroon Clown and you will see one of my Anemone's.

    30 minutes later -

The way I have used to check if an anemone is dead - pick it out of the water.. If it's slimy and has a horrible nasty smell (trust me you won't forget this smell) then it's dead.. If it's still sticky and has no smell, your safe.

Also, they will lose all their color when they die. Almost pure white and their insides will come out of their mouth/anus.

    Good Luck!

I was told by a LFS that my 65W CF lighting would be good enough for a rose anemone. It lasted about a year before it shriveled up to the size of a quarter before my clown ate it so it didn't have a chance to mess up my tank. I changed my lighting to an HQI and my new anemone is loving it. If you don't have strong lighting for it, stack your rock and encourange the anemone to be closer to the top of the water so it gets more of the lighting soon. Your tank looks fairly deep. For really deep tanks that are 30" or more, you will want to go with MH since they will penetrate much deeper than T5.

really important question that hasn't been answered before. HOW OLD is the tank?

How long did it cycle/did it cycle? You need to buy a test kit ASAP. Get one of the API ones. Can pick them up at petco or petsmart as well as the LFS (make sure to get the marine one).

    Salinity?

also, you can always try giving it a silverside and to see if the tentacles still have their stick. If they take the silverside they probably aren't knocking on death's door just yet
