Most species of Anthias do better in a harem setting, three or more. Is there a particular species you have your eye on? How big is your tank?

The lyretail and the scalefin are the same species. Pseudanthias squamipinnis to be exact. There are several variations around the world... I do however think that the Maldives version is the best looking, followed closely by the African. This species is best kept in harem form. 1 male and several females. They get large, but not over 4" in home aquaria usually.

The huchtii is probably one of my least favorite anthia... they look beautiful but seem to be very un-anthia like personality wise. They stay about the same size as the lryetail, and MUST be kept singly, or in a harem (more than 3). A pair or trio usually ends up with bullying to death.

i would recommend you at least get three anthias, they are so cute the way they play together.
    anthias do fine with chromis.
IMO chromis bring other fish out and make them less shy, i think it has something to do with always be out swimming around which seems to make the other fish more at ease.
i have 2 chromis and 3 anthias, all get along fine.

I have a male lyretail but no females yet. He is beautiful and always swimming right along the front of the tank. Only problem is they are a pain when it comes to feeding. They will only eat prepared foods and its recomended that you feed them like 3 times a day. Keep that in mind when you think about buying them.
All in all its a great fish though.
