Like someone else said it may be a blessing in disguise. It happened to me 3 Decembers ago. I took a week vacation, came back on my birthday on Dec. 15th, and my job was eliminated, on my birthday, 10 days before xmas. I can now say it was a blessing in disguise!! Don't worry, it will be ok!

Hello, in these times of greed generated economic crisis, by no means any of our fault, it is another reminder of the protection a Union can offer. I have been a union man all my life (starting at 18) when I hired in at Chrysler Corp. Over the years the union has fought hard to stop companies from being able to arbitrarily fire or lay off people. I understand that not everyone has access to or the opportunity to join a union, but I get tired of all the union bashing the slanted media keeps spewing out. Chrysler just announced they were idling all their plants for 1 month and the non union people will receive nothing but thanks to the unions' relentless pursuit for job security the represented employees will receive 95% of their pay.
Sorry you lost your job and I will pray for your future prosperity.
P.S. I don't know why the little face is where an 8 should be.

sorry to hear that man! Unfortunately a lot are where you are now which sucks. I am fortunate that I am in nursing, so I can get a job still, however it is affecting health care also.

I got a bonus but was a lot smaller then last year....plus next year is highly uncertain for me right now. The contract I am working on ends on Dec 31 (was just cancelled right before Thanksgiving) and my boss keeps saying that there is going to be a job for me afterward, however, is unable to tell me what I will be doing or how many hours I will have! I am a private contractor so guranteed NOTHING...no hours, plus I am giving no holidays, vacation, benefits!

But it is so crappy that a company does that to a person right before the holidays! Again, sorry to hear about it and I pray that this stupid economy turns around and eveybody gets what they need for this holiday season!

Nooooo!!!! Actually I understand where you're coming from. I was raised in a family that owned a business with a union and saw the owners side of it, which was, let's just say, not good. I think the unions were most beneficial in the 20's & 30's when poor working conditions, wages and child labor were way out of control.

Also if you're vested and oldskool in the union it's one thing. I used to work for Coca-C0la that had Teamsters, the guys voted them out because it was only good for the guys who had been there 20+ years, all the new guys were paying a lot and not getting anything out of it. The company had offered better benefits for free.

Unclejed, you are from Michigan though, so you get a pass from me for my anti-unionism. :) Although I think the auto industry needs to re-organize, without the union... /duck!!!

Don't hate me for my opinion!

Guys, the discussion on unions could easily trigger some internal fighting so it's probably best if we avoid that subject.

i dont think unions are even legal in oklahoma, it's a "right to work" state which means any employer can do basically anything with their employees they want, which sucks but at least I got a severence, last time I got laid off I got a job making 3x what I was so if I can pull that off again I'll be the happiest guy on the planet lol

I didnt realize how many people were being affected by the economy across the country that really sucks

best of luck to everyone in their searches

Hey bc, we're cool....here is one last take, before vaccinations, diseases were more rampant and destructive. Take away the vaccines and they come back. Do away with (unions from the 30s & 40s) and things will go back to the way they were. Think of unions as the vaccines.
