good luck Seano! It is such a shame that college costs are so outrageous and not affordable for middle class families. I really think there's something wrong with the system, it's like there's no checks and balances on college costs. I hope some scholarships come through for you!

Sending you positive karma! Your lady friend is from a nice area! I worked in Port Clinton during high school and first summer after going away to college. She probably knows of lakeside, I know she knows Danbury high school.

    Thanks for the optimism.

PS - they're cutting 100 faculty members and plan to raise tuition by 2% for next year.

it just seems that money management is not good on the university's part. Cutting that many faculty and still have to raise tuition?? Crazy. I've seen where the cost of Ohio's state universities is rated 6th in the nation. They need to get better with their money managment, 44 other states manage to have lower costs than ours.

Optimism is the best attitude to have. I'm impressed you've been so motivated to do the extra work to apply for them. Have you developed some good relationships with your professors in your field of study? One can never underestimate the power of bonding with the profs in your field so they can get to know you and your motivation. Obviously, not in a "kiss *ss" way but seeking out those that you respect and building relationships. Even more important in a big university.

Yes, I understand networking is good for not only academics, but also when it comes to getting an in at a new job or position somewhere. I only have 1 professor for my major this semester, but he's teaching 2 of my classes. I do well in both classes and he sees this. He's a really good teacher. I will have to ask him about possible job openings I may not know about...

The school year is winding down and will soon come to a close. haha this is so sad for me. My first year of college is about done and I'm looking for a job and my first apartment.

I completed my official housing appeal statement, waiting on my dad to turn in some documents.

I had an interview today and was offered a merchandise position at Cedar Point for the summer.

Just need a new job for the fall.

Good news, upon review of my housing appeal and supporting documents, I was granted permission from the FinAid and ResLife offices to live off campus in the fall! :D

I also have several roommates now to split costs and they've found a really nice place. It's a 5 bedroom, 2 bath house, 2 car garage, and a back yard. It's close to campus, a few blocks from downtown and shopping. My portion of the rent will be $280/month + 20% of utilities.

Oh, and today was my last day of exams. I just finished my my last paper for the semester and turned it in this afternoon. :)

Good for you. Where is your house that you will be renting? I am relatively familiar with the BG campus as my girlfriend went there and I spent many a college weekend in the Bowling Green area (not a big fan of the bars there, but the house parties were pretty good, spent a lot of nights in campbell hill sp?).

Thanks. It's on Main St., just 4 blocks north of the center of downtown (Grumpy Dave's Pub).

WOO HOO!! Congrats on everything - your house, your last exam, and completing your first year of college!! Oh, and the summer job too! My sons have been pretty lucky in getting jobs on campus.....I have to think BG has some positions available in the fall. The fact that you're now a big sophomore would be in your favor.

    Congratulations again!

Ohio State spends all their money on construction projects (lucky for me now since I'm a project manager) but my tuition dollars there funded the projects I now manage. When I was there as a student tuition went up ever year, book prices increased every year, parking prices increased and off campus housing sky rocked every year.

My 3rd year we lived in a 4 bedroom duplex on south campus. $1700 a month for just rent no utilities. It's ridiculous how much education costs.... And nothing will change.
