Snails is one of the more common liverock hitch hikers. I have hundreds of little snails that came in on my liverock. They do not get bigger then a 2cm. I have different types of snails that came in on it, and even some stomatella's. 2 different types of stomatella's. More then likely the snail you saw that you thought had doubled in size so quickly, is more then likely a seperate snail alltogether. Turn off all the lights in the room where the tank is, wait a few hours and then come in there with a flash light and look at your glass, you will see several of them. If you can get something clear with a reddish tint, you can look around your tank and see lots of things you wouldnt normally see during the daylight hours of your tank. Nightime is when a lot of things come out to feed thats hidden in your rock and sand.

Golden Apple snails are freshwater snails.

From my experience with snails in Freshwater, They reproduce like rabbits, and once you have them, you can never get rid of them. Especially those little brown ones that come in on live plants.
