appearing snail

    I bought some plants once, and like an hour after I put them in the tank, my africans were going crazy over something. I looked to see what it was and it was a big nest of eggs. I thought one of them layed eggs. I got a mason jar, scooped up the plant, and placed it in the jar, covered it with netting, a week or so later, it looked like the plant was rotting. Then I notced the eggs had moved and seperated. I took a closer look, and it was snails. The plnt I bought came in with a big nest of snail eggs. I dumped it in the tank and let the africans eat em up, lol.

    thanks fo rall the replys

    ok firstly let me clear up it is a freshwater tank

    secondly this snail doesnt look like a golden apple snail yet but it might if it keeps growing like this

    thirdly i will be moving onto slatwater at sum point i have to save up sum funds at the moment and i want to wait till this tank gets going properly

    lastly it has come out during the day and i have only ever seen one at once

    it came out earlier today and doesnt seem to be nocternal. i think it is a golden snail but if it is how big do they get?

    i'm not sure about telling one freshwater snail from another, but they've always been present in my freshwater planted tanks and i've never had a problem with them...if anything i've always thought they're helpful, moving thru the substrate and acting a bit like a freshwater clean up crew...
